Celtic v Hibernian (Mon Jan 11th 2021)

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

Celtic 1 (Turnbull 82)

Hibernian 1 (Nisbet 91)

Turnbull scored from the free kick won by himself. For the equaliser Laxalt gave away a needless foul then when the cross comes in Turnbull gets beat for the header, Hazard flaps at the ball and Duffy, McGregor and Laxalt all get in each other's way on the goaline leaving a tap in for Nisbet. Duffy's clearance was very weak.

Celtic had an NP xG of 0.46 while Hibernian's was NP xG of 1.65.

Celtic had 10 shots with 6 being on target. Possession was 59% with 681 touches. Celtic had only 3 corners and touches in the box were 7 (lowest this season). Total Passes were 484 with a Passing accuracy of 84%. Celtic had 6 crosses (equal lowest of the season with the Lille away game). Possession in the final third was 27% and Celtic passes in the final third were 176.

Turnbull was the ratings man of the match due to his stats. He had 1 goal, 2 shots on target, 80 touches, 63 passes, 76% pass rate, 2 key passes, 1 successful tackles out of 1 attempted and had 6 recoveries.

Welsh looked promising and kept things simple doing the easy things well. He won 6 aerials, had 6 clearances and had 3 interceptions.

Celtic shad 14 players unavailable due to self isolating after the Dubai Debacle and also 2 longer term injuries; Barkas, Bain, Elhamed, Ajer, Christie, Brown, Elyounoussi, Ntcham, Edouard, Griffiths, Ajeti and Klimala all self isolating and Jullien and Forrest out long term. Bitton was also suspended.

Despite 14 players out the only really understrength position was up front where Johnston had only a few appearances after injury and Harper was coming in for his debut.

In from the Rangers game came Hazard, Welsh, Duffy, Rogic, Johnston and Harper.

Celtic lined up with;

- Hazard

- Frimpong, Welsh, Duffy and Taylor

- Soro

- Turnbull, Rogic and McGregor

- Johnston and Harper

Okoflex, Dembele and Henderson came on as subs with Okoflex making his debut.

Although the 4231 formation was maintained the two forwards played very wide which was very ineffective for us in an attacking sense.

Key note - Celtic's crosses at 6 and touches in the box at 7 were the lowest this year and Celtic had 1.19 less NP xG than Hibernian.
