Celtic 3 xG 2.68 (Hatate 22, Palma 33 and Taylor 82) Kilmarnock 1 xG 1.54 (Watson 72) Celtic had 2.21 xPts in this game which was the 3rd lowest of the season with last week's Motherwell game and the Rangers game being lower.
This was down to the high xGA of 1.54 although that came from only 6 shots. A very high xG per shot of 0.257.
Celtic had 27 shots at goal which was their highest of the season so far.
Both teams had their highest xG quarter in the last quarter with Kilmarnock having 1.48 xG in the last quarter from just 4 shots.
Similar to the Dundee game Celtic's midfielders only made 27% of the team's passes.
Celtic lined up with;
Hart
Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales and Taylor
O'Riley, McGregor and Hatate
Maeda, Kyogo and Palma
Two changes from midweek with Carter-Vickers coming in for Phillips and Palma coming in for Yang. Two substitutions that happened on Wednesday.
From last week's league game against Motherwell Lagerbielke dropped out of the squad for Carter-Vickers and Turnbull dropped out of the squad (for the first time this season) for Bernardo. Joe Hart coming back into the squad from the Motherwell game with Bain dropping to the bench and Siegrist dropping out of the squad.
Phillips, Forrest, Holm, Oh and Yang all came on as subs for Carter-Vickers, Palma, O'Riley, Kyogo and Maeda. Oh coming on as a sub for the 7th game in a row.
Hatate played his first full 90 minutes since Hibernian away in December 2022.
Bain, Iwata, Ralston and Bernardo were the unused subs and Nawrocki, Welsh and Abada were all still out injured.
Best performers in this game for xG were Forrest 0.8 and Taylor 0.79. Best for xA for Celtic were Palma 0.39 and O'Riley 0.38. Top goal contributor was Taylor on 0.89.
Top rated players (FotMob and WhoScored combined) were Hatate 8.7, Palma 8.3 and Scales 8.2. Lowest rated players were Hart 6.1, Kyogo 6.3 and Carter-Vickers 7.0.
Scales made the most passes (151) and also received the most passes (107) and that's the most for either measure this season for any Celtic player. Only once in the last 3 seasons has any player played more than 151 passes for Celtic and that was Callum McGregor versus Aberdeen at Pittodrie in December (with 180).
28 of Scales passes were to Taylor and the biggest combination in the match was Carter-Vickers to Scales (33).
Reo Hatate received 69 passes and that was more than McGregor (66) and O'Riley (44). Hatate made 68 passes and did so at 91% which is his highest accuracy this season and highest since March. McGregor was on 90% with O'Riley on 83%.
Hatate's 91% is more impressive given his style of play and that he can tend to make more riskier passes than the other midfielders. His previous best this season was 79% and he only had 68% against Aberdeen.
Palma made 41 passes (52 per 90) and that was the most per 90 of any wide forward (starters) this season.
