Euros Stats (including my Stats Team of the tournament)

Some interesting stats I collated from the Euros;

  • Spain created the most xG at 2.29 per 90 minutes.

  • Denmark were the most accurate finishers with 2.1 Post Shot xG per game (versus 1.55 xG per game).

  • Teams leading had an average of 11.3 shots per 90 minutes.

  • Teams losing had an average of 12.8 shots per 90 minutes.

  • Teams drawing had an average of 13.5 shots per 90 minutes.

  • Which shows that game state really needs to be taken into account with xG.

  • Shots decreased by 48% (shots per 90) for teams who were down to 10 men

  • Shots increased by 114% (shots per 90) for teams who's opponents were down to 10 men

  • Shots per 90 increased by 46% during extra time.

  • Final 3rd passes increased from 29% to 34% during extra time.

  • Box touches increased from 21 to 28 (per 90) during extra time

  • The above 3 stats were a surprise to me.

  • Passing accuracy reduced from 86% to 84% during extra time.

  • The average ranking of England's opponents on route to the final was 10.3 while Italy's was 11.2 meaning England had the slightly harder route.

This is my Euros Team based on some key stats. I'm sure they may be some disagreements based on the variables of stats and how we interpret the importance of each one.
