Rangers v Celtic (Match Stats)

Rangers 1 xG 1.15 (Ramsey 3) Celtic 2 xG 1.82

(Rogic 7 and Carter-Vickers 43)

Celtic lined up with; - Hart - Juranovic, Carter-Vickers, Starfelt and Taylor - Rogic, McGregor and Hatate - Jota, Giakoumakis and Maeda

There were no changes to the team that started versus Ross County.

I did predict one change and that Kyogo would come in but he obviously wasn't fit enough. I just believed if fit he would have been chosen to play. Ralston, O'Riley, Bitton, Turnbull and Abada coming on as subs (as they did versus Ross County) for Taylor, Rogic, Hatate and Jota with O'Riley having to go back off due to an injury.

I got my prediction with Kyogo wrong but I did predict Celtic to be winning at half time and to win the game 2-1 so I got a couple of things (and they were big things) right. Top for xG was Rogic with 0.83 xG, Abada on 0.57 and Carter-Vickers on 0.20. For Rangers Ramsey had 0.33. For xA it was Jota on 0.25, McGregor on 0.15 and Giakoumakis on 0.04. Rangers had Tavernier on 0.29.

Surprisingly Hatate had Celtic's best passing accuracy with 82% and Juranovic had the worst passing accuracy with 56%.

Rangers xG of 1.15 was the most they have created against Celtic this season however Celtic still created more with an xG of 1.82 which was the highest xG of any of the two teams in the three games this season. As per the previous two games Rangers had a better xG in the second half than first and as per the previous two games Celtic had a better xG in the first half than second half. Celtic only conceded 0.02 xGA from set plays.

Rangers had 15 shots to Celtic's 11 but as per previous games Rangers' xG per shot was low at 0.077 (the previous two games were 0.073 and 0.053) and this is where Celtic have the edge with an xG 0.156 and 0.163 in the previous two games and 0.165 in this game.

Rangers did have more possession at 61% and 35% of the game was played in Celtic's defensive third. The previous games were 33% in Rangers defensive third and 29% in Celtic's defensive third.

However that possession was met with a resistant Celtic defence and Rangers had 42 crosses (previous highest in these games was Rangers with 23 in the last game), 229 final third passes (previous highest was 174) with Celtic having 44 clearances (28 was the previous highest). Carter-Vickers had 9 aerial duels and was successful in 7 of those.
