I'm a bit late with my review on our Scottish Cup tie versus Rangers however being back to work full time (after furlough) has been the priority focus for now.
Celtic lined up with;
- Bain
- Kenny, Welsh, Ajer and Laxalt
- Brown
- Christie, Turnbull and McGregor
- Edouard and Elyounoussi
Taylor, Griffiths and Ajeti all came on as subs.
My predicted team in my preview had the above but with Taylor instead of Laxalt. The Rangers line up was exactly as I predicted.
Stats from the match were;
- Corners we had 6 (we had 10, 6 and 1 in the previous 3 games)
- Possession we had 56% (we had 56%, 49% and 57% in the previous 3 games)
- We had 16 shots (we had 16, 13 and 5 in the previous 3 games)
- We had 5 shots on target (we had 8, 3 and 0 in the previous 3 games)
- We had 10 shots in the box (we had 4, 3 and 4 in the previous 3 games)
Turnbull had 3 key passes in the game.
Below I've highlighted 4 stills from the game.
Jogging to keep our season alive
1 - Callum McGregor loses ball. Diego Laxalt is ahead of him. David Turnbull & Ryan Christie is deeper than Moi Elyounoussi.
2 - Moi Elyouonoussi sprints & gains 20yds on David Turnbull. David Turnbull & Ryan Christie are jogging. David Turnbull only sprints at the last minute.
Goal - Callum McGregor is 40yds away. Diego Laxalt is in the box. Ryan Christie is outside the box. Disgraceful from David Turnbull, Ryan Christie & Callum McGregor. 2 loanees showing more effort.
1 - Davis clearly running into the path of Scott Brown
2 - Scott Brown still hasn't turned to see where Davis is or (as a captain should) to communicate & give support to JonJoe Kenny. Scott Brown also deepest & potentially playing Davis onside. Woeful from Scott Brown as a defensive midfielder
Kenny's part in the goal is embarrassing & for all to see. Not excusing him but Brown's part in the goal is criminal. If it's lack of legs then it is John Kennedy's fault for picking him. But in this instance it's communication, awareness, accountability & leadership.
